The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a collaboration with the Nasarawa State branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to promote safer driving habits and curb road accidents.

According to the FRSC Sector Commander in Nasarawa State, Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, many drivers routinely flout traffic regulations, and the Corps plans to use a wide-ranging advocacy campaign spanning churches, mosques, markets, motor parks, and the media to shift mindsets and enforce compliance.

As part of the initiative, the FRSC will recognise and reward drivers who consistently demonstrate safe driving behaviour. “Driving is a noble profession … Drivers should know that life is precious and obey traffic rules,” Sabo-Adikwu said.

NUJ Chairman for the state, Salihu Mohammed-Alkali, pledged that journalists will amplify the Corps’ safety messages by reporting on its road-safety activities and encouraging public participation in the campaign.
