FRSC Records 6,858 Road Crashes in Nine Months

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported 6,858 road traffic crashes nationwide between January and September 2025, leaving 3,433 people dead and 22,162 injured.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed revealed the figures during the launch of the 2025 “Ember Months” road safety campaign in Abuja. He attributed the majority of crashes to human error, citing fatigue, overloading of persons, use of haulage vehicles for passengers, and carrying fuel in plastic containers.

Despite the alarming numbers, the FRSC noted that the death toll marks a slight improvement compared to the same period in 2024. Mohammed stressed that more needs to be done ahead of the end-of-year travel season, when accident risks rise.

He announced enhanced safety measures for the Ember months, including increased deployment of personnel and special marshals on high-risk corridors, free vehicle checks, motor park rallies, and expanded coordination with transport unions and security agencies.

With mandatory compliance and public cooperation, the FRSC hopes to reduce crash incidents and fatalities moving into the last quarter of the year.
