The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has urged young Nigerians to look beyond the popular cabin crew roles and explore other career paths within the aviation industry, emphasizing the sector’s vast technical and professional opportunities.

Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, made this call while speaking at the launch of the Aviation Upskilling Development Programme (AUDP), which aims to equip over 100 youths across Nigeria with relevant aviation skills. The training, according to Najomo, will take place in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Kaduna.

Najomo explained that aviation is a multidisciplinary field with diverse roles such as air traffic management, aeronautical engineering, airport operations, safety regulation, logistics, and drone technology. He stressed that the industry’s growth depends on building a skilled workforce capable of maintaining global standards.

“The aviation sector is not just about pilots or cabin crew. There are numerous other opportunities for young Nigerians to build rewarding careers that contribute to national development and global competitiveness,” he said.

The NCAA boss added that the agency’s capacity-building efforts are in line with the Federal Government’s agenda to empower youths and reduce unemployment through technical education and vocational training.

He encouraged participants to embrace the opportunities presented by the programme, assuring that the NCAA would continue to collaborate with stakeholders such as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) to promote skill development in the sector.

The Aviation Upskilling Development Programme forms part of NCAA’s commitment to advancing local content and creating a sustainable talent pipeline for Nigeria’s aviation industry.
