The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) has pledged deepened collaboration with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to elevate the nation’s seaports into a premier maritime hub for West and Central Africa. The commitment was solidified during a courtesy visit by an NCS delegation, led by President Aminu Umar, to the NPA headquarters in Lagos.
Umar emphasized the Chamber’s role in driving advocacy and enhancing market awareness of Nigeria’s maritime assets among global stakeholders. In response, NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, applauded the NCS for its efforts in promoting shipping activities; a sector he noted facilitates an estimated $1.5 trillion in containerized goods annually.
Dantsoho reiterated the NPA’s dedication to operational excellence, stating, “We treat ships like queens and cargoes like kings.” He underscored the importance of patience, persistence, and long-term investment in maritime leadership, urging industry executives to align with national development goals.
The meeting highlighted a shared vision to leverage Nigeria’s geographic advantage, modernize port infrastructure, and attract investments, reinforcing the country’s strategic position in regional and global maritime trade.
