Minister, Federal Capital Territory
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that repairs are underway at the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, which was partly destroyed by a recent rainstorm.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing projects, Wike described the incident as a natural disaster beyond human control. The storm, which occurred on April 7, blew off sections of the terminal’s roof, scattering debris onto the Abuja‑Keffi Expressway.
The minister thanked God that no lives were lost, emphasising that only roofing sheets were affected and that the terminal’s structure remained intact. He assured that repairs had already commenced.
“What happened was that a strong wind blew off parts of the roof, but repairs are ongoing,” Wike said.
The Kugbo terminal is one of three newly built bus and taxi terminals inaugurated in June 2025. Wike had launched the construction of terminals in Mabushi, the Central Business District, and Kugbo in July 2024 to improve commuter safety and convenience.
According to the minister, although the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals were completed and inaugurated in 2025, they could not begin operations because their management required approval beyond ministerial level. He said the terminals would soon become operational following authorisation from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Wike added that President Bola Tinubu and the FEC have now approved the management of the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals under a Public‑Private Partnership arrangement.
