Bi-Courtney Aviation Services, operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos, has attributed the recent increase in multi‑storey car park fees to persistent congestion and the need to discourage long‑term parking.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company said the facility has been used for extended stays, sometimes days, months, or even years, reducing available space for genuine airport users. This, according to Bi-Courtney, has created operational challenges and placed additional security pressures on the car park.
The operator noted that passengers often spend more than 30 minutes searching for parking, leading to missed flights and delays. Congestion has also spilled over into terminal drop‑off and pick‑up zones, affecting traffic flow and the overall passenger experience.
Bi-Courtney emphasised that the revised tariff is not revenue‑driven but an operational necessity to restore order, reduce congestion, and ensure safety and efficiency.
Under the new structure, saloon cars now pay N3,500 for the first hour (up from N2,500) and N2,500 for each subsequent hour. SUVs pay N4,000 for the first hour (up from N3,500) and N2,500 for subsequent hours. Buses are charged N20,000 for overnight parking, while a lost ticket attracts a fee of N25,000.
The company reiterated that MMA2 has maintained strong safety and security records, achieved through monitoring, access control, and proactive management of terminal facilities, including the car park.
