DHL Aviation has reinforced its commitment to supporting economic growth in Africa with the introduction of two dedicated Boeing 737-400 aircraft, unveiled at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This move marks a continued strategic investment in the logistics infrastructure of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

The added air capacity is set to reduce transit times, increase delivery reliability, and expand DHL’s service coverage for businesses throughout West Africa and other regions. As the sole integrated logistics provider with a dedicated air network in SSA, DHL is scaling its aviation capabilities to meet rising demand from key sectors such as e-commerce, perishables, energy, and life sciences & healthcare.

Anthony Beckley, Vice President of Operations and Aviation for DHL Express SSA, commented, “With trade expanding under the African Continental Free Trade Area, businesses require predictable transit times and consistent delivery performance. These two aircraft will be integrated into our African air network, enhancing critical trade corridors between Africa-Europe and Africa-Asia.”

He added that the investment aligns with DHL’s broader commitment to sustainable growth, highlighting ongoing efforts in digitalization, including AI-driven route optimization and digital customs solutions,  as well as trials in renewable energy and alternative fuels across its facilities.

Riaan Vorster, Senior Director of Aviation for DHL Aviation SSA, noted, “This latest investment reaffirms DHL Express as the logistics partner of choice for businesses aiming to expand their role in regional and global value chains.”
