Prince Segun Obayendo Leads Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima on Courtesy Visit to City Boys Movement

Prince Segun Obayendo, National Coordinator of the Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima (TFT) 2027 group, on Wednesday led a coalition of transport union leaders representing Nigeria’s road, rail, maritime, aviation, and pipeline sectors on a courtesy visit to the City Boys Movement headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation formally endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, promising to deploy the sector’s expansive grassroots structures for the 2027 campaign.

Speaking at the meeting, Obayendo stressed the unique organisational strength of the transport sector, describing it as a “military-directional network” where directives cascade from the top down to the last worker. He emphasised that the sector had historically lacked a unified political voice, a problem the new coalition aims to correct.

“We have never, at one time, all come together like this. If we walk in diverse ways, the dividends of democracy cannot be properly harnessed,” Obayendo said. “Today, we are here to ensure that we vote, not in silence, but together, in synergy with the City Boys Movement.”

Welcoming the transporters, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga of the City Boys Movement highlighted the administration’s infrastructure drive, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a transformative project that now allows commuters to travel between both cities in under three hours. He called on the transport unions to serve as the primary link between the government and Nigeria’s vast grassroots population.

“We are building a membership of 10 million registered members for the City Boys Movement. If you have that number, you can decide who leads this country,” Shoga stated. “You have access to people. You can block the roads, shut the airport, which means your collaboration is not optional but necessary.”

Alhaji Othman, speaking for NARTO, pointed to the union’s extensive footprint, with functional offices in all 36 states and six geopolitical zones. He credited the Tinubu administration with delivering long-term infrastructure assets that will serve the country for the next four to five decades.

“We are expected not only to support this government but to ensure that the infrastructure being constructed is owned and maintained by us,” Othman said.

For his part, RTEAN President Dr. Musa Muhammed claimed a combined membership of over 20 million across Nigeria, recounting his 42-year personal association with the President dating back to Tinubu’s days as Lagos Governor.

“No previous government has recognised us the way this administration has,” he said. “We move millions of Nigerians daily. If we are for you, we are for you, and we are not going back.”

The meeting concluded with a commitment by both sides to draft a formal strategic collaboration document in the coming weeks, aimed at converting the transport sector’s operational network into a formidable political mobilisation machine for the 2027 elections.
