NADDC Trains 300 Technicians, Youths in Vehicle Mechatronics, CNG Retrofitting Across Six States

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has launched a specialised training programme for 300 automotive technicians and young people across six states, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s technical workforce and support the growth of the domestic automotive industry.

The two-week initiative, organised in partnership with TOFEKO Limited, commenced on August 17, 2026, simultaneously in Ekiti, Imo, Kano, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Cross River states, with 50 participants drawn from each state.

Beneficiaries are undergoing intensive training in vehicle mechatronics and compressed natural gas (CNG) retrofitting, with a strong focus on practical diagnosis, servicing, repairs, and maintenance of modern vehicles. The programme is being delivered by Bcephas Consults Limited, the technical consultant engaged by NADDC, through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practical sessions.

In Ekiti State, 50 technicians and youths from different parts of the state are currently engaged in intensive practical training designed to deepen their understanding of modern vehicle systems and enhance their ability to diagnose and resolve automotive faults. The sessions expose participants to contemporary automotive technologies and diagnostic methods, equipping them with the skills required to efficiently service, repair, and maintain modern vehicles.

NADDC said the intervention would also help upgrade the quality of services provided by existing automotive technicians while giving young participants practical skills that could improve their employability and create opportunities for entrepreneurship.

The initiative is part of NADDC’s broader human capital development agenda aimed at closing technical skills gaps in the automotive sector and ensuring that Nigerian technicians can keep pace with rapidly evolving vehicle technologies.

With the increasing adoption of alternative fuels and advanced automotive systems, the training in CNG retrofitting and vehicle mechatronics is expected to position participants to take advantage of emerging opportunities within the country’s changing mobility landscape.

The programme is scheduled to conclude on August 28, 2026. Upon completion, participants are expected to receive certificates of training as well as empowerment tools to enable them to apply their newly acquired skills in practical settings.

The intervention is expected to enhance the beneficiaries’ productivity and competitiveness, improve automotive service delivery, and support the establishment or expansion of vehicle repair and maintenance businesses across the country.

Through this initiative, NADDC is seeking to develop a more skilled and technologically equipped workforce capable of supporting Nigeria’s automotive value chain while creating employment and enterprise opportunities for young Nigerians.
