The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is working to reduce the processing time for driver’s licences to 48 hours through the introduction of a new contactless registration system.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed disclosed this in an interview, explaining that the initiative is part of ongoing reforms to make the licensing process faster, more secure, and less vulnerable to manipulation. He said the system will also enhance traceability, improve data integrity, and cut down costs associated with the manual process.

According to him, the automated platform will allow applicants to register without physical contact, while enabling quicker verification of information. He added that the agency is also putting measures in place to ensure uniformity across all licensing centres nationwide.

Mohammed noted that the reform will help curb cases of stolen vehicles and fake licences, stressing that the FRSC remains committed to aligning with international standards in driver licensing and road safety management.
