In a move aimed at alleviating the economic strain caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, Kogi State Governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo, has inaugurated the first batch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tricycles allocated to the state by the federal government.

The initiative, which seeks to reduce transportation expenses and promote cleaner energy, was unveiled during a ceremony in Lokoja on Thursday. Governor Ododo, represented by the State Commissioner for Transport, Atuluku Victor Levi, described the deployment of the 50 CNG tricycles as a strategic intervention to cushion the effect of rising transport costs on residents.

Ododo commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing citizen welfare through people-oriented programs. He emphasized that the use of CNG tricycles will not only make transportation more affordable but also support environmental sustainability and create job opportunities for the youth.

Under the first phase of the distribution, 19 of the tricycles were handed over to the National Association of Tricycle Owners, Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS). The remaining units are expected to be deployed in subsequent phases.

Amos Onuche Isah, Chairman of NACTOMORAS in Kogi State, hailed the initiative as a transformative step for the state’s transport sector. He noted that the program would help lower fares, boost employment, and improve the livelihoods of families dependent on commercial tricycle operations.

The introduction of CNG tricycles is part of broader efforts by both state and federal governments to transition toward greener and more cost-effective energy solutions amid rising petrol prices.
