Royal Air Maroc has paid the sanction fee imposed on it by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for violating consumer protection regulations but now faces a fresh warning from the regulator over recurring baggage complaints.

The NCAA had sanctioned five airlines in December 2024 for various infractions, including delays in refunds, failure to respond to directives, and mishandling of passenger luggage. Royal Air Maroc was among those penalised under Part 19 of the NCAA’s consumer protection regulations.

Confirming the development, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the sanction fee was not intended merely as punishment but as a tool to enforce compliance and ensure airlines treat passengers fairly.

Despite settling its fine, Royal Air Maroc has continued to receive complaints from Nigerian passengers about missing or short-landed baggage. The NCAA has therefore warned the airline to urgently improve its baggage handling processes and customer service or risk further penalties.

The regulator also reiterated its commitment to upholding passenger rights and ensuring airlines operating in Nigeria adhere strictly to global service standards.
