The Nigerian Railway Corporation has initiated full-scale recovery operations after Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train, with engineering teams successfully retrieving both the locomotive and one affected coach from the accident site.

Managing Director Kayode Opeifa personally led the recovery efforts, returning to the accident scene to supervise the complex operation conducted by NRC’s specialized engineers. The incident, which occurred Tuesday morning, resulted in multiple overturned carriages and caused significant concern among passengers.

Opeifa commended the technical team for their professional response and demonstrated expertise in handling the emergency situation. “I applaud the recovery team for their dedication and technical competence,” stated the Managing Director. “Their swift intervention is crucial to restoring normal operations promptly.”

The NRC leadership also recognized the contribution of security agencies deployed to the site, acknowledging their role in maintaining a secure environment for the recovery operations. Opeifa extended appreciation to media representatives covering the incident, describing journalists as essential partners and emphasizing the importance of accurate information dissemination during such events.

“The provision of credible, factual information is vital in helping the public understand the situation and recognize the progress being made,” Opeifa emphasized, urging citizens to rely on official sources for updates regarding the incident and recovery operations.
