In order to combat traffic congestion across Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to operators of event centres, nightclubs, and places of worship over their incessant obstruction of public roads during events and peak hours.

According to a statement released by LASTMA the agency expressed deep concern over unregulated parking and road encroachment, especially during weekends and night-time events. These practices significantly obstruct the free flow of traffic and pose risks to public safety.

LASTMA General Manager, Bakare Oki, emphasized that while the government encourages social and commercial activities, such events must not come at the expense of public order and mobility , “The authority will no longer tolerate a situation where venues illegally convert main roads and walkways into parking spaces, leading to avoidable traffic chaos,” he said.

Venue owners are urged to provide proper parking arrangements and traffic control plans ahead of large gatherings. LASTMA disclosed that moving forward, enforcement teams will be deployed to hotspots, and any venue found guilty of road obstruction will face legal sanctions, including closure and prosecution.

This development comes as part of the state’s broader initiative to restore sanity to Lagos roads and ensure safe, smooth mobility for all residents and road users.
