The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned operators of articulated vehicles, tankers, and trucks to strictly observe traffic regulations and speed limits or face decisive sanctions.

In a statement issued in Calabar, Cross River Sector Commander Innocent Tommy Etuk expressed grave concern over a recurrence of fatal crashes and mounting casualties on major corridors in the state.

The warning comes in the wake of a tragic crash involving students of the University of Cross River (UNICROSS), which claimed four lives and left six others injured. The victims are currently receiving medical attention at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and Aruba Hospital in Calabar.

Commander Etuk linked a significant number of heavy-duty vehicle crashes to brake failure, wrongful overtaking, excessive speed, and loss of control, noting that such incidents are entirely preventable.

He reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance posture toward reckless driving, particularly along the Odukpani-Itu route, and emphasised that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.

Etuk further called on relevant stakeholders to support enforcement measures—including joint operations with other security agencies, in a collective effort to reduce road crashes and fatalities across the state.
