Women Take Centre Stage as FACA Awards Champion Inclusion in the Automotive Industry

The Female Automotive Conference Awards (FACA Awards) convened on Friday, May 1st, 2026, at the LTV Conference Hall, drawing key players from across the automotive sector for a focused dialogue on the expanding influence of women, under the theme “She Drives Success.”

In her opening address, Convener Mrs. Aderonke Irewole stressed the need for deliberate platforms that celebrate and empower women in the automotive space, setting a collaborative tone for the day’s proceedings.

Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Engr. Mrs. Oduntayo Oyeyemi delivered a goodwill message recognising that women are not merely participating in the industry but actively reshaping its contours.

Guest speaker Engr. Austin Adekunle Shonaike, CEO of Automedics, reaffirmed his commitment to the female automotive market, calling for stronger inclusion, targeted investment, and sustained backing for women building careers in the sector.

A major highlight was the panel session exploring “Women Breaking Barriers: Female Entrepreneurship in the Automotive Industry.” Mrs. Taiwo Baruwa examined the media’s critical role in amplifying the achievements of women, while Engr. Olufunmilade traced the journey from an era of restricted educational access for women to the present, where female professionals are breaking through entrenched industry barriers.

Kazheem Olumayowa of Lagos Computserized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS) delivered an interactive contribution that urged women to pair confidence with proven competence, noting that once capability is demonstrated, the sky becomes a starting point, not a ceiling. The session was rounded off by Yetunde Arowolo, who reinforced a message of resilience, continuous growth, and collective empowerment.

From start to finish, the conference served as a robust platform for recognition and inspiration, cementing the position of women as key drivers of success in the automotive sector.
